Dr. Udit Mittal, Consultant Gastroenterologist and Endoscopist in Oxford.

I am Dr Udit Mittal, MBBS, MRCP (UK), FRCP (London), and FRCP (Edinburgh), a Consultant Gastroenterologist and Endoscopist practising across Oxfordshire and Buckinghamshire, with an NHS appointment at Oxford University Hospitals. I am a Fellow of the Royal College of Physicians of both London and Edinburgh, reflecting my commitment to maintaining recognised professional and clinical standards in my work.

At the heart of my practice is high-quality, patient-centred gastrointestinal care. I understand that digestive symptoms can be worrying, disruptive, and sometimes difficult to talk about. I take time to listen carefully, explain investigations and treatment options clearly, and work in partnership with each patient to develop a personalised management plan that reflects their symptoms, lifestyle, and priorities. I care for people with a wide range of digestive and liver conditions, from common problems such as reflux, bloating, constipation, diarrhoea, and IBS, to more complex conditions including coeliac disease, inflammatory bowel disease, iron deficiency anaemia, abnormal FIT results, rectal bleeding, and liver, gallbladder, and pancreatic disorders.

Alongside consultations, I perform diagnostic and therapeutic endoscopy, including gastroscopy, colonoscopy, advanced polypectomy, and bowel cancer screening. I am accredited by the NHS National Bowel Cancer Screening Programme, which requires strict colonoscopy quality criteria, and I perform approximately 1,500 endoscopies each year, supporting consistency, safety, and careful attention to detail in my clinical practice. My clinical interests include the gut microbiome, gut–brain interaction, preventative gastroenterology, and familial gastrointestinal cancer syndromes, with a focus on evidence-based, compassionate care that helps patients feel informed, supported, and reassured.
